MySpace

MySpace is a social networking website that was founded in 2003 in Beverly Hills, California. This social medium peaked as the #1 social network in June 2006 until it was unseated by Facebook in April 2008.

MySpace has undergone a dramatic cosmetic and functionality revamp during 2007 - 2008 to compete with Facebook. According to pingdom.com, approximately 42% of MySpace users are under the age of 24. It appears to have taken on a definite entertainment focus - with more ephasis on music, video and games. I would even compare it to iTunes.

How Can MySpace Help You?

If you are a small business owner and your demographic is children to young adults, MySpace could be a lucrative social networking tool for your business. Some of the industries that would be a good fit for MySpace are:

  • Music
  • Gaming
  • Toys
  • Electronics (Wii, PlayStation, XBox, etc)

This is where you can reach this group. If you have not visited MySpace, it is like a candy store of personalized applications ranging from music, slide shows, video clips...it's all there. It's like walking into the bedroom of a 16 year old, where you see posters of their favorite artists plastered all over the walls, hear their favorite music blasting from the iPod...while they play XBox online with ten friends from all across the country.

...uhmmm, maybe I should start another blog...
