Facebook started out as a networking website to keep college students connected but has since grown to become the top social networking site, edging out MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn and a host of others. Facebook currently has more than 60 million active users with an average of 250,000 new users registering every day! It is currently the sixth most trafficked website in the United States.
You probably have a Facebook account or most certainly know people that do. Mainly, these are personal accounts set up to connect with friends, family and acquaintances from all over. Users upload and tag (adding names or captions) photos, play games, live chat, share videos and network. But did you know that you can also create a page specifically for your business?
How to Get Started Using Facebook to Promote Your Small Business
The only thing that you need to start a Facebook page to promote your business is a valid email address. If you do not currently have a Facebook account, just to to www.facebook.com and look at the bottom right of the home page. You will see a link that says " Create a Page for a celebrity, band or business. "
Once you click on the link, you will see the following page. For your business, you can either select the first option or the second option for your business website. Once that is done and you agree that you are the official representative of the entity, you will receive a confirmation email. Once you check your email (the email address that you used when you signed up) and confirm, then Voila! You will now have a Facebook page that will allow you to promote your business.
Many people are not aware that Facebook really does not permit the promotion of businesses on personal profiles. The personal accounts are supposed to be kept separate. I have seen many people promoting their businesses on their personal Facebook accounts probably because many people are not aware of the Pages.
